(KNSI) – Patients at a clinic in Sauk Centre who thought they were getting a COVID-19 vaccine accidentally received saline a injection instead.

A statement from CentraCare says that a small number of patients at a COVID-19 vaccination clinic received a saline-only injection on Friday, March 12th. The vaccine is normally mixed with a saline solution before being administered. Officials with CentraCare say that staff administering the vaccine have been addressed about the issue, and new processes have been put into place to make sure such an error never happens again.

The statement says, “While there is no medical concern surrounding this error, we understand the anxiety and disappointment it brings to those who thought they received this long-awaited vaccine.”

It was a short time into the clinic that the mistake was discovered, and affected patients have been contacted and rescheduled for the actual vaccine.
