(KNSI) – A familiar scam is targeting people in Sartell.

The Sartell Police Department says they’ve received multiple reports of a scammer using the police department’s phone number and claiming to be working with the IRS.

The scammer demands money and threatens the victim with arrest if they don’t pay. This is a scam.

The Sartell Police Department says they will never contact anyone asking for money or claiming to be with the IRS.

Police want to remind everyone to keep themselves safe by never giving out personal information over the phone to anyone they don’t know.

Sartell police ask anyone who’s received one of these calls or has any information about the scam to call the department at 320-251-8186.

Police say this scam or others like it happen across Minnesota and the best thing people can do is be aware that it’s a scam.
