(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Health reports more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths statewide today. The death count includes a Wright County resident who was in their late 30s.
There are 136 new cases of COVID-19 across the five-county area: 18 in Benton County, 23 in Morrison County, 39 in Sherburne County, 27 in Stearns County and 29 in Wright.
The COVID-19 test positivity rate is remaining relatively low; the 1,096 positive cases represent 2.9 percent of the 37,631 COVID-19 tests processed in Minnesota on Wednesday.
Over the course of the pandemic, 494,106 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19, and 6,724 have died. 469,713 confirmed cases have recovered over the past year.
As for COVID-19 vaccinations, the CDC estimates that nearly one out of four American adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine. In Minnesota, one out of five people have gotten one or more doses; 1,129,967 Minnesotans have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Fifty-seven percent of that group (642,701 people) have gotten second doses.
MDH reports that 70.2 percent of Minnesotans age 65 and older are now vaccinated. In the next age group, 50-64, 18.2 percent of those folks are vaccinated.
Locally, county vaccination rates are at or just below the statewide average.
