(KNSI) – The old Perkins Family Restaurant in downtown St. Cloud is getting torn down.
Demolition crews began tearing apart the iconic building at 118 6th Avenue South on Thursday.
After demolition on the 8,600 square foot lot is complete, the property will remain vacant until a developer is found.
JLC Properties owns the land. Spokesperson Adam Zimny says the company is negotiating with a couple of developers, but there are no current plans for the property.
He says demolition will continue this week and should be finished next week.
The building has remained empty since the Perkins closed in August 2019.
A sign on the door stated the closure was due to the expiring lease on the building, parking lot, and franchise agreement.
