Waite Park Police Department

(KNSI) – Several pickleball courts damaged by an alleged drunk driver in Waite Park need more repair before they can open.

City staff says the three north courts will open as soon as the weather allows, but without a windscreen until the fence can be fixed.

Waite Park is working on getting the south pickleball courts repaired, but no completion date is available at this time.

On November 27, officers were called to the pickleball courts at River’s Edge Park after the courts sustained extensive damage.

Police say a vehicle had driven through the pickleball courts.

While on the scene, officers found vehicle debris that matched a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash the night before on 10th Ave N and Division Street.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Jose Luis Briceno Jr of Waite Park, was found a short time later and charged with two counts of 3rd degree DWI and two counts of failure to stop for an accident.
