(KNSI) – Granite City Days will take place in St. Cloud in 2021.

The summer celebration will take place from June 24th through the 27th.

Mayor Dave Kleis made the announcement during his weekly address.

“This year, we’re gonna have Granite City Days. It is going to be new and improved that it’s going to focus on music. The song American Pie by Don McLean probably says it best. I knew this was gonna be the long haul the day the music died. And that is so sad for any community not to have that ability to come together to hear music. Music is what really tells a story. It’s uplifting. It really brings the community together.”

Granite City Days will include music contests, a parade focused on music, an opening ceremony with music, and more.

There will also be a chance for people to participate individually in providing some music for Granite City Days.

Kleis says Granite City Days will be chaired by St. Cloud’s first singer laureate James Calacsan.

“He’s putting together a is as already assembled a team of talented individuals working to put on the best granite city days that we’ve ever had. I know we need it. We need to get together. We need to celebrate. We’ll do it in a safe way. We’ll follow guidelines, but it’s important that we celebrate community.”

In 2018, Calacsan took home multiple gold medals at the World Championship of Performing Arts in California, considered the Olympics of performing arts.

The singer has also tried out for and appeared on several singing shows such as American Idol, The Voice, and Fox’s I Can See Your Voice.

More information on Granite City Days will be coming in the summer newsletter.

Due to the pandemic, Granite City Days was canceled in 2020.
