(KNSI) – A 56-year-old St. Martin man is hospitalized after a homemade go-kart crash left him with a severe head injury.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the crash about 3:20 Sunday afternoon. When they arrived, they said they found a man lying in the street with a head injury and complaining about chest pain and pain in his left leg.

Officials say Loren Tritabaugh was driving a homemade barstool-type go-kart powered by a small gas engine. Tratabaugh lost control of the go-kart and was thrown off of it.

He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital to be treated for injuries.
