(KNSI) – You can help expand a child’s mind and enjoy some fantastic food from your home during the 12th annual Imagination Library Progressive Dinner presented by the United Way of Central Minnesota.
United Way Events and Brand Manager Sam Switzer says even though the event is going virtual this year, there are a few non-negotiables.
“We know the food has to be awesome. We know we have to have those really fun hosts and chefs and we know people need to gather in whatever way they know they’re comfortable with. So we’ve designed a virtual progressive dinner that will meet all three of those.”
She says each course of the meal will have its own theme. The United Way will use Zoom to bring local chefs into people’s homes’.
“Those chefs will lead you in a semi-private cooking lesson. You’ll receive your box of ingredients prior to that night so, you won’t really know what you’re cooking but your chef will walk you through step by step how to make an amazing meal for you to enjoy that night.”
Tickets for the virtual event go on sale Monday and will be on sale until gone. The cost is $150 per couple. The dinner will be on April 24th.
Switzer says reading to kids makes a difference.
“We know that the more words we can introduce into a child’s language early, the better they’re going to do throughout all grades of school.”
She says Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails kids one book a month from birth until they’re five years old.
“There’s just something about central Minnesota and our people, our communities rally around this. They know we need to make sure our kids are getting a great education. And there’s something about a kid getting a book in the mail in their own name that starts to build some excitement about reading and about seeing books.”
Central Minnesota’s program is the largest in the state, serving over 7,000 kids and costing nearly $200,000 a year.
