(KNSI) – Two people suffered only minor injuries after two gas trucks crashed in Eden Lake Township Monday afternoon.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the crash near the intersection of County Road 34 and Lakewood Road. When they arrived, they found a Lakes Gas propane truck tipped on its side in the intersection. A Paynesville Co-Op gas truck was about 50 yards from the intersection.
The driver of the Paynesville truck, 64-year-old Robert Block, told deputies he was going west on County Road 34 when he saw the Lakes Gas truck approaching the intersection. He said the Lakes Gas truck slowly entered the intersection as he was driving past Lakewood Road, which is where the two crashed.
The driver of the Lakes Gas truck, 69-year-old Ronald Utsch, told deputies he was going north on Lakewood Road and approached the stop sign at the four-way intersection. He told investigators he checked cross-traffic on 34 and didn’t see the other truck, and it hit on the driver’s side. Utsch’s truck tipped after the crash.
Officials did call out response teams due to a potential hazmat situation. A press release says they were “consulted for an evaluation and recommendations.”
Both drivers complained of minor injuries, and they were checked out at the scene by Eden Valley Fire and Rescue.
