(KNSI) – Following an unsuccessful bid for the Attorney General’s office in 2018, Doug Wardlow says he’s giving it another shot.

Wardlow made the announcement official Wednesday morning. In a YouTube video, he says current AG Keith Ellison is a danger to the future of Minnesota, saying he hates cops and promotes Antifa. According to Wikipedia, Antifa is a far left-wing group that calls itself anti-fascist and anti-racist, promoting its agendas through “nonviolent and violent direct action.” Critics accuse the group of inciting violence, not unlike what Minnesota saw in the riots following George Floyd’s death. Ellison was seen with the Antifa handbook in a photo that first surfaced on his Twitter account in 2018, saying it would “strike fear in the heart” of then President Donald Trump. That photo and tweet popped up again last spring as Ellison was announced as the top prosecutor against the four former Minneapolis police officers accused in Floyd’s death. In a press conference announcing Ellison’s handling of the case, he said the photo didn’t mean anything. The tweet has since been deleted.

In the video, Wardlow accuses Ellison of doing “nothing while lawless rioters looted and burned our cities, right here in Minnesota.”

He also said Ellison “chases down small business owners trying to make a living, but it can’t be bothered to take action against those destroyed our cities and make our neighborhoods unsafe” Wardlow accused him of “politicizing safety and security” while proving “time and again that he puts allegiance to his political ideology over safeguarding the public are protecting our constitutional rights.”

Wardlow is referring to Ellison suing several businesses that opened for in-person service after Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order closing them for the second time in November.

Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement in response to failed attorney general candidate Doug Wardlow’s second run for the office:

“Doug Wardlow is a right-wing extremist who will do anything for political power. When Minnesotans heard Wardlow’s plan to politicize the office of Attorney General by purging all DFLers from it, and when Minnesotans saw Wardlow take $24,000 from business owners who defrauded their customers, they agreed that Wardlow was unfit to serve as Attorney General.”

“Since his defeat, Doug Wardlow has only gotten more extreme and more dangerous. Wardlow currently serves as general counsel to Mike Lindell, where he provides legal advice to a man who wants to use the United States military to stage a coup and forcefully overturn a free and fair election. The last thing Minnesotans want is a far-right extremist who does not believe in democracy like Doug Wardlow to serve as our Attorney General.”

Ellison defeated Wardlow in 2018 by just over 98,900 votes.

Wardlow is married with three children. He graduated Magna cum laude from Georgetown and holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
