Sauk Rapids Police

(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids Police Department has arrested a suspect in an attempted burglary last week.

On February 2nd, a front-door surveillance camera at a home in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue North in Sauk Rapids captured images of a man kicking the front door after 1 a.m. The homeowners checked the front door later in the morning to find it damaged, then one of the homeowners checked their vehicle outside and saw that someone had trespassed there.

Police say damage to the door exceeds $1,000 in value, and a knife valued at $50 was taken from the vehicle.

After publishing images from the surveillance camera, authorities say a tip helped identify the suspect as 18-year-old Drevion Xavier Hemingway of St. Cloud. Police say they also compared surveillance video taken on February 3rd at a different location and concluded that Hemingway was the person in both videos. Hemingway was found by Sauk Rapids investigators on Friday and arrested.

Hemingway is charged with felony attempted burglary, felony damage to property and motor vehicle tampering, a misdemeanor. His next court date is scheduled for March 2nd.
