(KNSI) – Candidates for Minnesota’s Teacher of the Year are out, and some local teachers are on the list.
Katherine Green teaches Language Arts at St. Cloud Tech, Special Education and Early Childhood teacher Louise Ziegler with Sauk Rapids-Rice Schools; Eric Meyer, who teaches English at Maple Lake High School; and Katherine Zuehlke with Annandale Public Schools have all been chosen as Teacher of the Year candidates.
The program celebrates excellence in teaching and includes teachers in grades pre-K through 12th grade, plus instructors with early childhood family education and adult basic education programs. Teachers can be from either private or public schools.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of educators, business community leaders, non-profit organizations, and philanthropists. The 75 will be whittled down to a list of semifinalists, with the Teacher of the Year being named at a banquet in May. Whether that banquet is in person or virtual is up in the air.
