(KNSI) – Officials with Metro Bus in St. Cloud say the new mandate for face masks on public transportation now makes it a federal violation to not wear a cloth or fabric mask on a bus or inside a Metro Bus facility.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Transportation Security Administration issued a Security Directive memo to transportation companies, including Metro Bus, regarding the new nationwide executive order. The order states that any passenger on a railroad, intercity bus service, or another public transportation form must have a cloth face covering secured to their head via ear loops or ties. The covering must go over the user’s nose and mouth and be hand-made or store-bought and needs to be a solid piece of material without slits, exhalation valves, or punctures.
Face shields are not included in the directive and do not count as a proper covering.
Children under the age of two, those with a disability who can’t wear a mask safely, and for those people who wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety, or job duty as determined by the relevant workplace safety guidelines or federal regulations are exempt from the order, but, passengers must stipulate they qualify for one of these exceptions if they are not wearing a mask.
Masks are available to the public at the Metro Bus Transit Center and all Dial-a-Ride and ConneX buses.
