(KNSI) – If you ask some Minnesotans, they’ll tell you we’ve gotten off pretty easy when it comes to heavy snow and bitter cold temps this winter, but the other shoe is about to drop.

The National Weather Service says snow will arrive ahead of a strong cold front Wednesday night and fall through the day Thursday. Then, temperatures will tumble Thursday, starting around 30 degrees in the morning, plummet into the single digits Thursday night, and fall below zero Friday

That will be followed by act two of this system with an even stronger surge of cold air Saturday, bringing with it wind chills of 25 to 35 degrees below zero by Sunday morning. High temperatures Sunday won’t get above zero. Wind chills will stay around the 20 below mark.

Monday morning, wind chills will be between 20 to 35 degrees below zero. Temperatures will be a little warmer later next week, but forecasters say we will still see numbers below normal.
