(KNSI) – A Wright County judge has set bail for the man accused of assaulting his wife, fleeing police, and engaging them in an hours-long standoff earlier this week.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Dellwo’s home just after 8:00 Monday night after his wife called 911 to say he choked her. He fled the scene before police arrived, only to return about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday morning with a gun allegedly pointed at his head. He again fled the scene, but a deputy spotted him driving in Monticello and tried to stop his vehicle, but they say he ran, and police used tire spikes to get him to stop. The chase ended outside Eastview Elementary School.
Police say Dellwo refused to get out of his vehicle, and according to the criminal complaint, they also saw the gun in the car. The criminal complaint said he was threatening to hurt himself with that gun. Negotiators worked most of the day to get Dellwo to surrender before using a chemical agent to flush him out of his SUV. Court documents say he still refused to comply with police, so they used a foam baton to get him under control. Foam batons are a nonlethal round often used in crowd management tactics.
The Wright County Emergency Response Team and deputies from Sherburne and Hennepin County assisted in arresting Dellwo.
Police searched his vehicle, and they say a fully loaded AR-15 semi-automatic rifle was inside. He is not allowed to have a gun due to a previous felony conviction.
He is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, felony domestic assault, and fleeing police. Bail was set at $1 million.
