(KNSI) – Minnesota turkey farmers who lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic can now apply for payments through the federal Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

Last month, Senator Amy Klobuchar helped ensure that livestock producers would be eligible for relief in the coronavirus package approved by former President Donald Trump just after Christmas, her office says.

“Minnesota’s farmers and agriculture workers are critical in securing our state’s food supply,” Klobuchar said. “I’m glad help is on the way for many contract turkey growers, and I will continue to work across the aisle to get additional relief for those in need.”

The program can reimburse up to 80 percent of revenue losses through most of 2020 for contracted turkey farmers. The application period ends Tuesday, January 26th. Eligible producers can apply by going to the program’s webpage, calling 877-508-8364 or contacting their local USDA Service Center.
