Catholic Charities’ Share the Spirit Program a Smashing Success – Thanks to KNSI Listeners

(KNSI) – A local adopt a family program was a smashing success for 2020.

Executive Director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud Steve Pareja says their Share the Spirit Program came down to the wire, but, thanks to an outpouring of generosity, help came through.

“We had over a dozen families that still needed to be sponsored. And I really was trying to get the word out that there are families in this area that still were in need to have a good Christmas and we spoke that morning. I think it was in the 8:00 hour, and by noon, over half of those families had already received the sponsorship. By the next morning [it was] all of them.”

Pareja says calls continued to come in from people looking to help needy families even after all of the sponsorships had been filled.

“We continued to get calls after that. Folks that had heard us on air and said, you know, ‘we want to be part of this. We want to help out,’ and we said, ‘well, thanks, but everyone’s been taken care of,’ and folks said, ‘No, no, no, I want to help out.’ And we had such a response. I just wanted to take this opportunity, personally to thank you, to thank Leighton Broadcasting but most importantly, to thank all of the KNSI listeners who heard this call and made a difference in people’s lives.”
