(KNSI) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is looking into the death of a 41-year-old Willmar man after he was shot by a stray bullet.
Police say they were called about 7:40 Friday, January 15th, to a home in Willmar for a man, identified as David Delfosse, who suddenly collapsed in front of his family while working in his garage. Paramedics discovered he had been shot in the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators saw a bullet hole in the wall of the garage near where the man was standing. It is believed the bullet came from somewhere off the property, penetrating the wall and hitting Delfosse. His body has been taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Saturday morning, the Willmar Police Department SWAT team served a high-risk warrant at a home nearby as part of the investigation, but no arrests were made. Police believe Delfosse was not a target or an intended victim and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigators are asking homeowners in the area to review home security camera footage for any audio or video that may have captured what happened and to tell police of anything they find.
