(KNSI) – Students in the Catholic Community Schools System will be returning to in-person learning on January 19th.

In a press release from the school, it says the decision was made with support from Bishop Donald Kettler and St. Cloud Diocese Superintendent David Fremo after consultation with the Minnesota Department of Health and the local health department.

The school decided not to come back right away after Christmas break because they knew families maybe had traveled over the holiday and wanted to ensure the safest possible return for students, staff, and faculty.

“We know that distance learning is challenging on so many levels for our families, students and teachers alike, and we are so excited to welcome all of our students back,” said Paula Leider, principal at All Saints Academy. “It’s almost like the first day of school all over again!”

“It really will take all of us actively remaining educated and vigilant to prevent COVID-19 from circling through our school buildings,” St. Katharine Drexel School principal Erin Hatlestad said. “We appreciate the close attention to safety guidelines and preventative measures our families, staff and faculty are making, and all of the sacrifices as well.”

CCS officials say they will continue to work with the state and local health departments to follow COVID safety guidelines to hopefully remain in the in-person learning model for the rest of the year.

“I want to personally extend my deepest gratitude and praise to our principals and teachers who have been working overtime for months now,” said Scott Warzecha, president of Catholic Community Schools. “They are more than prepared to continue providing students with the excellent faith-based education our families have come to know, love and expect from our Catholic Community Schools.”
