(KNSI) – The state of Minnesota confirms 1,598 new COVID-19 cases and 43 newly reported deaths Thursday, one day after the United States’ highest one-day fatality count from COVID-19 yet.

On Wednesday, 4,327 more Americans had died from COVID-19, including 50 Minnesotans.

The state’s latest death count includes eight people from around St. Cloud: two people in Sherburne County, four people in Stearns County and two people in Wright County. The ages of the deceased range between 50 and 99.

For new cases, Benton County adds 23, Morrison County 14, Sherburne 27, Stearns 37 and Wright 36.

The state processed 36,678 tests Wednesday, and 4.4 percent returned positive readings.

The latest data from MDH shows that 645 people are currently hospitalized in Minnesota for COVID-19. Of those patients, 131 are receiving intensive care.

A new day also brings news of more Minnesotans vaccinated for COVID-19. As of Monday, 153,332 people have received at least one dose of either Pfizer’s or Moderna’s vaccine. Additionally, 15,082 people have completed the two-shot vaccine series.
