(KNSI) – The National Weather Service says a potent winter storm is bearing down on much of Minnesota, bringing with it heavy snowfall and high winds.
A winter weather advisory is out for much of central Minnesota, starting at noon today. Snowfall amounts will range from three to five inches, though forecasters say isolated totals of seven or eight inches are not out of the question.
There is a blizzard warning in effect starting at 3:00 this afternoon until 6:00 Friday evening. The warning follows a line along and west of Alexandria to Litchfield, to Glencoe, down to Mankato and Albert Lea. That area is looking at seven to ten inches of snow and winds of 30 to 35 miles an hour.
The snowfall, followed by blowing and drifting snow, will cause slippery roads and reduced visibility.
