(KNSI) – A drunk driver who led officers on a high-speed chase and crashed into another vehicle killing a young man has been sentenced.

Jason Jerome Rothmeyer was given ten years and eight months in prison on Thursday.

In August of 2018, the 39-year-old from Clear Lake was fleeing from police around 100 miles per hour near Becker.

Police say Rothmeyer crossed the intersection of Highway 25 at 82nd Street and struck a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 25, ejecting one person.

Officials say 18-year-old Kyle Scott Foley, of Dassel, later died from his injuries.

Two others from the vehicle were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Rothmeyer tried to flee the vehicle on foot but was apprehended a short distance away.

Prosecutors say Rothmeyer had a blood alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit.
