(KNSI) – When a team wins the Minnesota State High School League Football Tournament, one would gather many players would be worthy of the weekly Player of the Week Award.
However, the player that makes final play of said state championship may be the most worthy and that’s exactly who the award goes to this week.
Rocori Senior, Andrew Anderson was the recipient of the two-point conversion to cap-off an incredible state championship run for the ages for the Spartans.
Down 21-20 in overtime against a team that had not lost since 2017, head coach James Herberg elected to go for the two-point conversion and the win.
Jack Steil rolled to his right and although Anderson was well-covered, Steil threw the ball to the perfect spot for Anderson to grab and send Rocori to the top of Class-4A football.
The Spartans turned into a running team for most of the playoffs and the state tournament but they relied heavily on Anderson in crunch-time during the championship game.
Anderson added a highlight-reel grab earlier in the game that may go down in Minnesota History as one of the best catches in a state championship game.
Although the final play is what many will remember from Anderson, the senior had himself a great season statistically by hauling-in 38 receptions for 710 yards and five touchdowns.
Anderson was also a major part in Herberg’s opportunistic defense by making 44 tackles while adding two interception, two forced-fumbles and one fumble recovery.
The wideouts efforts garnered him an All-District First Team bid and a trip to the All-Star Game this Saturday, December 7th.
