MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The latest European addition to the Minnesota Timberwolves will be able to use a deep backcourt to ease his transition to the NBA.
That's the view of Timberwolves general manager David Kahn. He said Wednesday after Alexey Shved's signing was finalized that it's important for the team to avoid putting too much pressure on the 23-year-old Russian to become an immediately productive player.
The 6-foot-5 Shved is a shooting guard first, but he's also capable of moving to point guard. Kahn says he was impressed by Shved's creativity when he first saw him play last year.
Shved will play for the Russian national team in the London Olympics next week.
Shved says he's wanted to play in the NBA since his father brought home videotapes of games.
