MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jake Locker led the Titans to a field goal as the Tennessee Titans played many of their offensive starters in the exhibition finale, a 24-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.
Locker went 3 for 5 for 31 yards in a rare bit of action for a starting quarterback in the final preseason game. Hoping to avoid a spot on the practice squad, quarterback Rusty Smith completed 13 of 21 passes for 178 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Marcus Sherels returned a kick 109 yards for a touchdown and intercepted a pass in a last-ditch effort to make the team for the Vikings, who lost offensive lineman Seth Olsen to a scary neck injury in the second quarter.
Vikings offensive lineman Seth Olsen was taken off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter Thursday night after injuring his neck in a collision with Titans linebacker Scott Solomon.
Olsen was blocking on a screen pass when he took a knee from Solomon to his helmet and went down. Head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman raced to his side and immediately called for a stretcher as a hush fell over the crowd.
Concerned teammates lined up about 15 yards away, and players on both sides kneeled in prayer. He received a standing ovation from the crowd and gave a thumbs-up with his left hand as he was wheeled off the field.
Olsen is in his fourth season. He started four games for the Vikings last year.
