MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins have placed closer Matt Capps on the disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.
The team announced the move on Monday, one day after Capps showed up in Cincinnati with more pain in his shoulder.
The issue has bothered Capps for much of the summer. The veteran tried to pitch through the discomfort, but it was hampering his effectiveness.
The Twins will likely use a combination of left-hander Glen Perkins and right-hander Jared Burton to fill in for Capps while he is out. The Twins recalled lefty Tyler Robertson from Triple-A Rochester to fill the roster spot. He went 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 33 relief appearances for the Red Wings.
