MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins are taking advantage of a few extra days off in the coming weeks to add some offense to their bench.
The Twins announced on Thursday that they optioned right-hander Cole De Vries to Triple-A Rochester and will recall first baseman Chris Parmelee in time for the series opener against the Cubs on Friday night.
The Twins have three days off in the next 12, reducing the need for a fifth starter. De Vries picked up his first career victory against the Royals this week.
Parmelee is hitting .375 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 15 games since he was sent down to Rochester. It's an encouraging sign for Parmelee, who hit just .179 in 27 games in the big leagues to start the season.
