MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Byron Buxton will miss the rest of the season for the Minnesota Twins, but the team is relieved that prized center field prospect Buxton only has a concussion following a violent outfield collision with a teammate.
In Buxton's first game for Double-A New Britain on Wednesday, Buxton suffered a head injury bad enough to knock him unconscious for about 10 minutes. He ran into right fielder Mike Kvasnicka after both of them ran full speed for a fly ball in the fifth inning.
Twins general manager Terry Ryan said on Thursday that the scary situation "turned out about as good as you could ever hope." Ryan happened to be at the game and visited Buxton in the hospital after he was taken there for further evaluation.
