ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - San Diego Padre Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn passed away on Monday at the age of 54.
The lifetime Padre had 3,141 hits and an average of .338 in his 20 season career. Gwynn was known for being one of the greatest hitters of all time, winning 8 batting titles in his career, playing in two World Series with San Diego.
Since retiring, Gwynn was the Head Coach at San Diego State University, taking over in 2002. In the past few years Gwynn fought cancer, taking a leave of absence from the school on June 11th.
