MCMINNVILLE, OR (KNSI) – After claiming their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament title last week, the St. John's University Johnnies baseball team will begin NCAA tournament play at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the campus of Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.

The Johnnies enter the tournament with a 29-14 mark and fresh off a defeat of regular season champ St. Thomas University in the MIAC championship game. The Johnnies first tournament championship ever goes along with 13 regular season MIAC titles.

Awaiting the Johnnies in the first round, the number nine team in the country, Concordia of Texas. The Tornados finished the regular season with a 36-9 record and are the top seed in the region.

A win for the Johnnies will put them in a Thursday match-up against the loser of a Wednesday night game between the University of La Verne and Whitworth College, while a loss would have them facing either Trinity College of Texas or Coe College of Iowa.

The regional championship game is scheduled for Saturday with the winner heading to Appleton, WI for the Division III World Series.
