Omaha, Neb. - The St. Cloud State men's golf team captured its second straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) title winning the 54-hole tournament posting a team score of 296-303-291-890. Sunday's final round was not played due to unplayable weather conditions. The first 36 holes of the tournament were played last fall at The Classic at Maddens in Brainerd.
The Huskies final round 291 at the par 72, 7,005-yard Tiburon Golf Club in Omaha, Neb., marked the lowest team score of the tournament. St. Cloud State finished at +26, 30 strokes in front of second place teams Minnesota State University and Concordia-St. Paul.
St. Cloud State junior Tyler Koivisto is the individual champion as he finished the tournament at three-over-par with consistent rounds of 73-73-73 for a 219 and medalist honors.
Koivisto was joined by teammates Devin Holmes and Charlie West on the six person NSIC All-Tournament Team.
Holmes and West, both seniors, tied for third place at seven-over-par 223. Holmes shot rounds of 74-76-73. West posted scores of 76-75-72.
Rounding out the Huskies in team scoring were sophomores Matt Bible and Chase Hahne. Both players shot 73 in the final round.
The team title is the second for the Huskies since rejoining the NSIC in 2008. It is the tenth team title in the history of the program since 1966. The Huskies won Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) titles in 1966, 1973, 1974 and 1975. St. Cloud State won North Central Conference (NCC) team titles in 1994, 2004, 2005 and 2007.
Koivisto joins Charlie West (2012) as the most recent NSIC medalists. He is the ninth Husky to win an individual conference title.
