MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Norwood Teague officially started his job as the new Minnesota athletic director on Monday.
Teague arrived at his office on Monday morning and started holding meetings and preparing to raise money for several big projects on campus.
Teague says the school is very close to a long-term contract extension with men's basketball coach Tubby Smith, meaning he will inherit coaches for all three of the school's major programs. Jerry Kill is under contract in football and Don Lucia is firmly entrenched as leader of the men's hockey team.
Teague acknowledges that it's somewhat odd for a new athletic director not to have a major decision to make on a high-profile coach. He says that just leaves him more time to devote to fundraising and other efforts.
