Fort Myers, Fla. (KNSI) - "No Baseball Tonight." The Minnesota Twins got their second day off this week, this time thanks to an early evening rain shower at Hammond Stadium.
For a first day in the "Sunshine State," color me unimpressed. Ok, that's harsh, thunderstorms are a way of life down here, and there is nothing but sun in the forecast for tomorrow. Things are still bright as can be. Plus, I haven't had a winter coat on in hours.
Other than the weather, today was a great "get your feet wet"(pun fully intended) type day for me. I feel a little more confident with the lay of the land around Hammond Stadium, my plush broadcast location in a quite radio booth is all set up, and I even had some great initial interviews with many more to come.
As for the rest of my now empty night, some fine dining establishment will get my business, then back to the hotel to prep sound and notes for tomorrow's broadcasts live here once again from Hammond.
The schedule, I will be on twice an hour throughout the KNSI Morning Show with Don Lyons beginning at 6. Topics, general impressions of Hammond and the area, and we will also hear from some of the faithful who have flocked to the southern environs.
Late morning I will join Bob Hughes in the 9 o'clock hour where we will chat with Betsy Clayton who works for Lee County Parks and Recreation. If you have ever had an inkling to come down here, Betsy has all the info on the great things to do that may just turn that inkling to action.
That's the morning, then we will see where the afternoon takes us. The Twins will be off to Tampa, and I will be desperately searching for some sun. Will I be at a ball game? Will I be at a beach? Find out as I once again join Ox in the Afternoon right off the top of the show, live at 2.
My final thought of the day...Rain or shine, the crack of the bat, the slap of the leather and the thrill of the grass still makes thoughts turn directly to spring, and baseball.
KNSI's coverage of Twins Spring Training, directly from Fort Myers is brought to you by Foley Lumber and Milaca Building Center, Jackson Hewitt, Bristow's and New York Gyro. Hear J.W. all throughout the day on the KNSI Morning Show with Don Lyons, The Bob Hughes Show and Ox in the Afternoon. Coverage continues this weekend on the KNSI Saturday Morning Show with Dave Phipps and The Benchwarmers.
