NEW YORK (AP) - NBC's Bob Costas says he plans his own commemoration of Israelis killed during the Olympics in Munich 40 years ago, despite the refusal by Olympic authorities to do so during Friday's opening ceremony from London.
Costas told the Hollywood Reporter that he intends to note the International Olympic Committee's decision when Israeli athletes enter the stadium Friday. He said many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive.
Costas denied to talk about his plans in more detail, and an NBC Sports spokesman said Monday that production plans for the opening ceremony are still being finalized.
Palestinian gunmen killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches during an attack on the Olympic village in 1972.
