Minnesota prep hockey player paralyzed during game

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) - A Twin Cities high school hockey player has suffered a paralyzing injury during a game.

Sixteen-year-old Benilde-St. Margaret's sophomore Jack Jablonski was injured during the Holiday Hockey Classic tournament in St. Louis Park.

Jablonski made the first goal of what would be a winning game for the junior varsity Red Knights against Wayzata High School.

In the second period, Jablonski was dashing for the puck when an accidental check from behind sent him into the boards.

Red Knights' JV coach Chris McGowan tells the Star Tribune Jablonski is recovering at HCMC from two broken bones in his lower neck.

The coach says Jablonski is unable to move his legs and has only slight movement in his hands and fingers. But he says the player's spirits are "really quite good.''
