SARTELL MUSKIES 4 BELLE PLAINE TIGERS 0
The Muskies of Sartell topped the Tigers of Belle Plaine, behind the great pitching performance by Adam Wenker. Adam threw a complete game, scattered 4 hits, walked just 2 and he recorded 8 strikeouts. Jace Otto had a great game as he went 2-4 with a double, 1 stolen base, walk and 2 RBI's. Andrew Deters went 2-3, he also walked and scored a run. Luke Sweeter went 2-4, Tim Burns went 1-4 with a run scored and Dan O'Connell went 1-3. Adam Schellinger went 1-2 with a huge RBI. The Muskies jumped on the Tigers in the first inning, as both Andrew Deters and Brain Schellinger worked the pitcher for walks and Tim Burns had a single to load the bases. Jace Otto drove the ball to deep right center field, nearly a 390 foot drive, just off the center fielder's glove. Jace drove in two huge runs to enable the Muskies to go up early. This win now advances the Muskies to Labor Day weekend, for the final 16. They will play the Region 2C champions, the New Ulm Brewers. The Brewers defeated Loretto 9-4 last Friday evening. The Brewers will enter this game with a 24-7 record. They play in the Tomahawk East National League with a 21-4 league mark. The Muskies will take the field at on Saturday at 11:00 in Belle Plaine. If the Muskies do win, they will play on Sunday at 11:00 in Jordan.
FERGUS FALLS HURRICANES 5 KIMBALL EXPRESS 3
The Express of Kimball dropped their second round state tourney game to the Fergus Falls Hurricanes 5-3. The Express starting pitcher Jeremy Hinderks threw 6 2/3 innings, a draftee from Sacred Heart, he gave up 8 hits, walked 3 and he record 2 strikeouts. Dylan Gass, a draftee from the Bird Island Bull Frogs threw 1 1/3 innings of relief, he walked one and he gave up one hit. Brooks Marquardt started the game off with a home run on the very first pitch of the game. Brooks also drove in a run in the 8th inning with a ground ball. Ben Johnson and Jordan Joseph had base hits for the Express. Brian Marquardt had a sacrifice for a RBI in the 8th inning too. Adam Theis, Kyle Winter and Austin Ruehle all earned walks for the Express. Joey VonWahlde, pinch ran, stole a base and he scored a run. After scoring two runs in the top of 8th inning, the Express had the bases loaded with Adam Beyer up. He did hit one out of the park which many first thought might be a grand slam, but it was just foul by a couple of feet. The Express finished the season with a 24-6 record, for a great season, they are already looking forward to next season.
WINSTED WILDCATS 1 St. AUGUSTA GUSSIES 0
The Gussies of St. Augusta dropped their state tourney game to the Wildcats of Winsted 1-0. Matt Geislinger, Watkins draftee, pitched a great game as he scattered 6 hits, walked 3 and he recorded 12 strikeouts. Three Gussies got base hits, Marcus Lommel, Nate Laudenbach and Zach Laudenbach. Adam Gwost and Brady Grafft both worked the pitcher for walks. Adam Gwost with a runner on drove a ball to right center at least 390 that the center fielder was able to get too. Adam's drive would have been out of most amateur baseball parks thru out the state. Also earlier in the game Aaron Fruth also hit one out of the ball park, that was just fall down the left field line. The Gussies had a great season, I am sure they are already getting prepared for next season.
