LOCAL AMATEUR BASEBALL ROUNDUP

The Class C Teams have a few of those 48 spots in the state tourney already filled. But many of those will yet be determined this coming weekend. The Class B teams will be starting their regional tournaments. See the posted brackets. Check the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball website for more info: www.minnesotabaseball.org

Region 1C Results

Sartell Muskies 10 Hinckley 0

 

The Muskies of Sartell topped the Knights of Hinckley 10-0 behind the strong pitching performance of Grant Mackenthun. Jake Sweeter had a big game, as he went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's and Adam Wenker went 2-4 with 2 big RBI's. Andrew Deters went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI and Tim Burns went 1-3 with a home run, a walk and he scored 2 runs. Luke Sweeter went 1-3, he scored 2 runs and had 2 big RBI's and Dan O'Connell went 1-4 with a RBI. Brian Schellinger went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and Jace Otto went 1-3 with a walk.

 

Mora Blue Devils 3  Sartell Muskies 2 (13 Innings)

 

The Muskies of Sartell dropped their 2nd round Region 1C playoff game to the Blue Devils of Mora, 3-2 in 13 innings. The Blue Devils were led by a great pitching performance by Asa Patterson as he went all 13 innings. Asa was a Muskie draftee last year and he won a game for them in the state tourney. Adam Wenker was the starting pitcher for the Muskies, but Chad Schwegel was the pitcher of record, he threw  3 innings of relief, giving up 3 hits, no walks and he recorded 2 strikeouts, Chad is a draftee from the St. Joseph Joes. The Muskies had 10 hits in the game, but just couldn't come up with any big hits. Tim Burns went 2-6 with a stolen base, Dan O'Connell went 1-5 with a big double for 2 RBI's. Jace Otto had a great game going 4-6 and a run scored, Andrew Deters went 1-4 with a walk and Brian Schellinger went 1-5 with a sacrifice. The Muskies will now play the Rum River Bandits at 4:00 at HInckley, the winner will qualify for the state tournament.

 

Mora Blue Devils 11 Sartell Stone Poneys 1

 

The Stone Poneys of Sartell lost their first round Region 1C game to the Blue Devils of Mora. Rob Gabrielson was the pitcher of record as he threw 4 innings and Jordan Clitty thew 2 2/3 innings of relief. Pat Dolan went 2-3, Dan Gaughan went 1-4 with a double and Jeff Amann went 1-2 with a walk. Austin Timm went 1-2 and Rob Gabrielson went 1-3.

 

Sartell Stone Poneys 10  Rum River Bandits 5

 

The Stone Poneys won an elimination game as they topped the Bandits of Rum River 10-5, behind the pitching efforts of Jeff Amann. He earned the win with 7 2/3 innings, he walked 2, scattered 5 hits and recorded 3 strikeouts. Earning the save was there draftee from Chisago Lakes, Kellen Reed with 1 1/3 innings of strong relief.  Rob Gabrielson led the Stone Poneys offense as he went 2-5 with 3 big RBI's and Jake Wenzel had a big day with as he went 1-4 with a RBI, walk, stolen base and 2 runs scored. Pat Dolan went 1-5 with a RBI, Dan Gaughan had a walk and a RBI. Jeff Amann went 2-4, Austin Timm went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Travis Morino had 2 big sacrifice bunts, a stolen base, he walked and scored a run. Josh Rathbun went 1-4 with a double and Jim Garbrielson had a sacrifice bunt for a RBI and he walked. They will now play at 7:00 at Hinckley against the Hinckley Knights, if they win, they will qualify for the state tourney.

 

 

Region 11C Results

 

Luxemburg Brewers 6  Milroy Yankees 2

 

The Brewers of Luxemburg topped the Corn Belt league champions, the Yankees of Milroy 6-2, behind a great pitching effort by Austin Klaverkamp. Austin threw a complete game, scattered five hits, walked 4 and recorded 6 strikeouts.  The Brewers offense was led by Derrick Orth, he went 3-5 with a home run and a double for three big RBI's. Luke Harren went 2-4 with a walk, Isaac Matchinsky went 2-3 with 2 walks and a run scored. Austin Klaverkamp went 2-4, Cory Wenz went 2-4 with a sacrifice and Colton Fruth had 2 walks, a stolen base and he scored a run.

 

St. Augusta Gussies 6 Cold Spring Rockies 4

 

The Gussies of St. Augusta topped Central Valley League rivals 6-4 and a trip to the state baseball tourney. Zach Laundenbach threw 8 strong innings, as he scattered 9 hits, walked 4 and he record 8 big strikeouts. Aaron Fruth earned the save with one inning of relief, he recorded 3 strikeouts and gave up just one hit. Nate Gwost may have had his best game as amateur player, as he went 3-4 with a home run and 4 big RBI's. Brady Grafft went 2-4, Aaron Fruth went 1-4 with a RBI and Nate Laudenbach went 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Blaine Atmann was the pitcher of record as he threw 8 innings, he scattered 7 hits, walked one and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Chris Lardy threw one inning of relief facing just 3 batters. David Jonas led the Rockies, as he went 2-4 with double, walk and 1 RBI and Ryan Bell had a very good game as he went 3-4 with a RBI and sacrifice. Paul Schreiner went 1-3 with a walk, and Ricky Burtzel went 1-4 with a RBI. Kevin Wenner went 2-5, Jeff Lindblom and Mike Holbrook each had a base hit.

 

Kimball Express 12 Raymond Rockets 2

 

The Express of Kimball topped the Cornbelt League foe the Rockets of Raymond 12-2 behind a very good pitching performance by Matt Dingman. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2 and he recorded 4 strikeouts. The Express pounded out 12 hits, Adam Theis went 2-4 with a double, scored 2 runs and 3 big RBI's and Kyle Winter went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI's. Joey VanWalde had a great day as he went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and Adam Beyer went 2-3 with a walk, he scored 2 runs and a RBI. Brooks Marquardt went 1-3 with a run scored and a RBI and Scott Marquardt went 1-3 with a double, run scored and a RBI. Ben Johnson went 1-2 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored and a RBI and Austin Roehle went 1-3 with a double, run scored and a RBI. The Express had a huge 4th inning, they scored 12 runs, as they batted around twice. The Express inning included 4 doubles and 8 singles. They now have built a record of 21-4.

 

Watkins Clippers 5 Bird Island Bull Frogs 4

 

The Clippers of Watkins topped the No. 2 seed from the Corn Belt league the Bull Frogs of Bird Island 5-4, behind the pitching performance of Dan Berg. Dan threw all nine innings, he scattered 11 hits and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Dan Berg had a big night as he went 2-4 with 2 doubles, a walk and 3 big RBI's. Tyler Long also had a great game as he went 3-4 with a a double and a run scored. Kevin Kramer went 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored, Brian Benson went 1-4 with a RBI and a run scored and Adam Hiltner had a RBI, scored a run, a sacrifice and a walk.

The Gussies of St. Augusta topped Central Valley league rival Luxemberg 8-2, behind the pitching efforts of Travis Laudenbach, he threw 8 innings, scattered 7 hits, walked just one and he recorded 2 strikeouts. Aaron Fruth earned a save with a perfect 9th inning of relief. This also qualified the Gussies for the state tourney, for the first time since the mid 90's. Brady Grafft went 3-5 with 3 RBI's and Aaron Fruth went 2-5 with 2RBI's. Marcus Lommell scored 3 runs, 1 walk and a stolen base for the Gussies. Mitch Ergen was the pitcher of record for the Brewers. Isaac Matchinsky went 2-4 with a RBI and Derrick Orth went 1-4 with a double and a run scored. Cory Wenz went 2-4, Colton Fruth went 1-3 with a double and Luke Harren went 1-4 with a RBI and a sacrifice fly.

 

Kimball Express 19  Watkins Clippers 0

 

The Express of Kimball topped Central Valley League rival the Clippers of Watkins 19-0. The Express just exploded with 17 hits, including two grand slams. Ben Johnson was the winning pitcher as he threw three innings and Andy Dingmann, Zach Dingmann, Adam Thies and Brian Marquardt all pitched one inning of relief. Adam Thies had a huge day as he went 2-5 with a grand slam and a solo home run for 5 big RBI's. Adam Beyer had a great day too, as he went 2-4 with a grand slam for 4 big RBI's. Kyle Winter went 3-5 with a RBI, Brooks Marquardt went 3-5 with a RBI and Scott Marquardt went 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI's. Ben Johnson went 2-6 with 2 RBI's and Jordan Joseph went 1-3 with 2 walks. The big win qualifies the Express for state, for first time since 2004. They now have an impressive 22-4 record on the season. Charlie Oltz was the pitcher of record for the Clippers and Tyler Long got two singles for their offense in this game.

 

Cold Spring Rockies 8 Milroy Yankees 2

 

In an elimination game the Rockies of Cold Spring topped the Corn Belts No. 1 seed 8-2 to move on to next weekend. Rick Burzel earned the pitching win, as he scattered 4 hits, walked 2 and recorded 3 strikeouts in 7 innings. Chris Lardy earned the save with 2 innings of relief. David Jonas had a big day as he went 2-5 with a home run and 2 RBI's and Josh Porwall went 3-5 with a run scored and 2 RBI's. Ryan Bell went 3-4 with a RBI and Paul Schreiner went 2-4 with a run scored. Mike Holbrook went 1-3 with a double and 2 runs scored, Rick Burtzel went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and Mike Ficker had a RBI and sacrifice bunt. The Rockies now have an impressive 21-7 record and they will play Watkins next Saturday at 11:00.

EASTERN MINNEY WEST DIVISION PLAY REGIONAL PLAY IN GAME

 

The Stone Poneys of Sartell topped Eastern Minney rival Nowthen 5-4, in a game that found them down 4-0 going into the 4th inning. Jordan Clitty was their starting pitcher, he went 4 1/3 innings. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3 and had 2 strikeouts. The winning pitcher was Jeff Amann as he had a very good 4 2/3 innings performance, he scattered 4 hits, walked none and he record 4 strikeouts. Jeff Amann had a big night with the bat too, he went 2-4 with a walk and 2 huge RBI's. Dan Gaughan had a big day as he went 2-3 with a double, 2 walks, and he scored 2 runs. Jake Wenzel went 2-5 with a RBI and a stolen base, Pat Dolan walked twice, stole a base and scored 2 runs. Jim Gabrielson walked, and he had a sacrifice for a RBI and Austin Timm walked and had a RBI. The Poneys scored one run in the 4th and 2 in the 7th. Down 4-3 going into the bottom of the 9th the Poneys had 3 singles and back to back walks to score a run to tie  and the winning run. They will now play in the Region 1C playoffs.

The Springers of Cold Spring topped Lakewood league rival the Bees of Brainerd 8-0 behind the outstanding pitching performance by Mathias Butala. He threw 7 innings, walked just one, scattered 4 hits and he recorded 15 strike outs. Jack Arnold earned the save with his relief performance, he faced just six batters in two innings. Zach Hinkemeyer had a great night at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Jerod Terres went 2-5 with a big triple for 3 big RBI's and Tyler Geislinger went 2-2 with 2 walks and a RBI. Joe Dempsey went 1-4 with a sacrifice fly for 2 RBI's, Garrett Fuchs went 2-4 with a sacrifice and Zach Femrite walked twice and scored a run.

 

Beaudreaus Saints 8 Sauk Rapids Cyclones 1 (5 Innings Rain)

 

The Saints of the St. Cloud Beaudreaus topped Lakewood league rival the Cyclones of Sauk Rapids 8-1 in a 5 inning game, rain shorten game! Brian Anderson had a very good pitching performance as he threw all 5 innings, he scattered three hits. Dave Carlson led the Saints offense with a big double to drive in 3 runs and Ryan Schnieder scored 2 runs and walked twice. Nick Hengel walked twice and scored twice, Chad Hockemeyer and Doug Keller had base hits for the Saints. Tyler Bjork was the pitcher of record for the Cyclones. Tyler Bjork, Derek Cagle and Bo Schmitz all had base hits for the Cyclones.

 

Cold Spring Springers 5 Beaudreaus Saints 0

 

The Springers of Cold Spring topped Lakewood league rival the Beaudreaus Saints 5-0, behind the pitching performance of Zach Femrite. Zach threw 7 innings, he scattered 3 hits, no walks and he recorded 5 strikeouts. Justin Thompson earned the save as he recorded three strikeouts and faced just 6 batters in his two innings of relief. Alex Jungles had a big day at the place as he went 2-3 with a RBI and 2 stolen bases. Tyler Geislinger went 1-3 with a double, walk and a RBI and Jack Arnold went 1-1 with a double, 2 walks and he scored a run. Zach Hinkemeyer went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored and Justin Thompson went 1-3. D. J. Schleicher was the pitcher of record for the Saints as he threw 3 innings, Chris Koenig threw 2 2/3 of relief. Brad Haag threw the last 2 1/3 and he recorded 6 strikeouts and walked just one. Brad Haag, Waylon Bemboom and Ryan Schneider all had base hits for the Saints.

The Springers of Cold Spring topped Lakewood league rival the Cyclones of Sauk Rapids 8-5. The starting pitcher for the Springers was Chris Butala, he threw 4 innings and the winning pitcher was Reed Pfannenstein as he threw 5 innings of relief, he scattered 5 hits, had 2 walks and he record 4 strikeouts. Justin Thompson had a big day as he went 3-5 with a home run and 3 RBI's and Jack Arnold went 2-5 with a double and a RBI. Alex Geislinger went 1-2 with a double for 2 big RBI's and Tyler Geislinger went 2-6. Joe Dempsey went 3-6 and he scored 2 runs, Alex Jungels went 2-4 with a RBI and a walk and Zach Hinkemeyer went 2-4 and he scored a run. Grant Chapa was the pitcher of record for the Cyclones, he started and threw 5 innings and Andy Thayer threw 4 innings of relief, he recorded 3 strikeouts. Tom Wippler had a huge day for the Cyclones as he went 3-4 with a double, a walk and 2 RBI's. Andy Hinkemeyer went 2-5 with a RBI, Bo Schmitz went 2-5 and scored a run. Derek Cagle went 2-5 with a RBI, Bryce Gapinski went 1-4 with run scored and a RBI and Jesse Lavoi went 1-4 with a RBI.

The Cyclones of Sauk Rapids topped Lakewood league rival the Bees of Brainerd 9-5 behind the pitching of Nick Freihammer as he went 7 innings and Andy Thayer got the win with 3 innings of relief. Paul Schlangen had a great game, as he went 3-5 with a RBI and he scored 3 runs. Andy Hinkemeyer went 1-3 with a double, 2 walks and a RBI and Bo Schmitz went 1-5 with 2 RBI's. Adam Wippler went 3-5, Grant Chapa went 1-4 with a RBI and Joel Haller went 1-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored.
