Husky baseball opens regional play Thursday

MANKATO, MN (KNSI) – Back from whence they came. Less than a week after the disappointment of an NSIC tournament championship lost the St. Cloud State Huskies baseball team returns to the site of that disappointment to begin a new championship quest.

The second seeded Huskies (45-12) will face conference foe Winona State(#5) in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central regional in Mankato at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The last time SCSU stepped off Joe Faber Field came after two losses to Minnesota State in the championship round of the NSIC tournament.

Prior to the Huskies match-up with Winona State, host and top seed Minnesota State will take on RMAC tournament champion Regis College. The late game will feature fourth seeded New Mexico Highlands against fourth seeded Colorado Mesa. With a win the Huskies would face the winner of the 3 vs 4 match-up on Friday at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Central region tournament will receive a spot in the NCAA Division II baseball tournament in Cary, North Carolina May 26-June 2.
