MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KNSI) – In the first year of the award it only seemed fitting that St. Cloud’s Bob Motzko took home the ‘Herb Brooks Coach of the Year’.

That was announced Thursday night at the NCHC banquet that handed out numerous awards. Motzko won the first ever coach of the year after leading the Huskies to the NCHC Championship, ending with the Penrose Cup coming home to St. Cloud and a final record of 21-10-5.

Senior Forward Nic Dowd took home some hardware as well, winning the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Defensive Forward of the Year. Dowd is as good in the classroom as he is on the ice, as he carries a 3.6 GPA with the books. He was great on the defensive side of things as well, blocking 19 shots on the year. Dowd was also named a finalist for the Hobey Baker award, which is the national player of the year.
