ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - So much for worst vs. first in Oxford Ohio. St. Cloud State entered Friday night's game against last place Miami, three points ahead of North Dakota in the NCHC. After the 4-3 loss, the Huskies may have company at the top of the standings.
In the first period, last weekend's hero Jonny Brodzinski got the Huskies on the board first when he scored his 15th goal of the season on a power play with just under 7 minutes to go in the first period. The Redhawks answered minutes later and the teams went to the first intermission locked up at 1-1.
In the second Miami took control with two goals, pushing it to a 3-1 lead. But in the final minute of the period Brooks Bertsch went to work in front of the goal getting his 3rd goal of the season with some help from Kevin Gravel and Joe Rehkamp. That was the scoring for the 2nd period.
In the 3rd, Miami's Blake Coleman took it by himself and pushed the lead for the Redhawks back to a two goal lead beating Ryan Faragher. The Huskies added a late goal from Nic Dowd, but it wasn't enough.
The Huskies will take on Miami again tomorrow night, same start time on AM 1450 FM 103.3 KNSI, pregame starting at 5:40pm. Monday night Husky play-by-play man Dan Terhaar and Head Coach of the Huskies Bob Motzko will be at the Green Mill in downtown St. Cloud for the Bob Motzko Show, which can be heard on KNSI at 6pm.
