ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - When the Huskies started the night, they were in first place in the NCHC, but were going to need a fight to stay there.
An important weekend in conference play as the top four teams are meeting head to head which could either give some teams, like St. Cloud State, some breathing room, or jumble the standings even more as the NCHC season races towards the finish line.
The Huskies got started early as Nic Dowd scored his 13th goal of the season giving the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. The Huskies defense, which was looking to rebound from last weekend's poor showing, was strong throughout, but Ty Loney found the back of the net late in the first period to knot it at one after one.
Ethan Prow answered for the Huskies in the 3rd, which would be the lone tally in the period as the teams went into the second intermission. In the 3rd, the Pioneers threw everything they had at the Huskies and following a boarding call against the Huskies, Denver scored a power play goal to even it up at two.
After a scoreless overtime period, the game went into the books officially as a tie, but headed to a shootout where the Pioneers pulled it out.
The same two teams are back at it again tomorrow night, with the Williams Integracare Pregame getting started at 6:40pm here on the home of the Huskies, AM 1450 FM 103.3 KNSI.
