ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud State built a three goal second period lead against Western Michigan Friday night, but couldn't hang and lost the game in a shootout.

A power play goal by Cory Thorson at 5:33 of the second period gave the Huskies a 4-1 lead, but the Broncos mounted a comeback.

They tied the game 5-5 with less than four minutes remaining in regulation on an even strength goal by Chase Balisy. It was his second goal of the game.

Neither team scored in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Western Michigan's Justin Kovacs scored the only goal in the shootout giving them the win.

Jimmy Murray scored a pair of goals for the Huskies, who fall to 12-3-4 overall, and 7-2-2 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.  Nic Dowd had a goal and an assistant for St. Cloud State, giving the senior co-captain 100 career points.

The two teams play again Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
