Hurdles left as Vikings plan nears decisive votes

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings stadium stampede is driving ahead, but some lawmakers are trying to slow its progress.

The team's bid for a nearly $1 billion stadium is nearing decisive action in the state Legislature. But the chairwoman of the Senate Tax Committee gave supporters a not-so-fast warning Wednesday.

Republican Sen. Julianne Ortman requested that the plan get rerouted to her committee instead of the Senate floor after action in the Finance Committee. The extra step would not only delay a floor vote, but it would heap extra scrutiny on a plan containing a menu of public subsidies.

The Vikings bill awaits a floor vote in the House after a remarkable rise from a committee defeat a week ago.
