MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KNSI) - The University of Minnesota is set to break ground on its new baseball stadium Monday afternoon.
A ceremony is scheduled at Siebert Field, which has been slated for replacement on the same site. The Gophers have been playing at Siebert since 1971. Through the years the stadium has played host to three NCAA Regionals, '74, '77, '00, and six Big Ten Tournaments, '84, '86, '00, '02, '03, '04. The Gophers baseball team won the Big Ten Tournament on their home diamond in 2004.
Construction will start next week on the new facility, and it's expected to be completed in December.
