Fort Myers, Fla. (KNSI) - Well, the whirlwind stay in Fort Myers has reached its final day. Still a lot of action for your humble servant today however, and it starts with your Twins welcoming the Toronto Blue Jays to Hammond Stadium. And in the first inning Joe Mauer thrilled the fans with his first spring homer.
Twins and Jays. Each team missed the play-offs last year and are looking to improve. The Twins back to competitiveness and the Jays perhaps to the top of the heap in the AL East. More on that later this afternoon.
As for your game today, overcast skies have not kept the crowd away. I think most people are used to the threat of a thunderstorm by now. Looks to be a healthy crowd, though the record number on Friday against the Yankees would appear to be safe.
Sunday could be one of two things for some. It may be just the start of a spring journey for a fan hoping to catch the final tune-up games(Opening day is just one week from tomorrow). On the other hand this could be the end date of a fun-filled spring experience. No matter first or last, Hammond Stadium is alive and ready to welcome these fans. I took it upon myself over the last few days to walk the concourses and aisles to get a feel of what a game day experience is like here in Fort Myers.
Just six scheduled spring games remain after today. After a long winter, and a quick spring tune-up, baseball season is just about to dawn.
KNSI's coverage of Twins Spring Training, directly from Fort Myers is brought to you by Foley Lumber and Milaca Building Center, Jackson Hewitt, Bristow's and New York Gyro.
