MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KNSI) Derrick Williams says he is trying to stay patient through fluctuating playing time with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The former No. 2 overall draft pick has not played in four of Minnesota's previous nine games. Coach Rick Adelman has elected to go with veteran Dante Cunningham as the primary backup to All-Star Kevin Love at power forward, and Williams' playing time has suffered.
He hasn't played more than 16 minutes in a game since Nov. 16. Not coincidentally, that is the last game Love missed with a broken right hand.
Williams says he just keeps working in practice and staying ready. He says he has not requested a trade, even though his name has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the last six months.
