MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) Denver goalie Juho Olkinuora made 33 saves as the Pioneers beat second-ranked Minnesota 2-0 on Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Olkinuora made 17 saves in the third period to preserve the win and pull within two points of Minnesota in the WCHA race. The Gophers (21-7-5, 13-7-5) entered the night two points out of first place.
Shawn Ostrow broke a scoreless tie with a goal just 18 seconds into the third period. Ty Loney added an empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining.
Minnesota was 0-for-5 on the power play. The Gophers have the nation's best power play.
The Pioneers (17-10-5, 12-8-5) were 0-for-1 on the power play.
Minnesota goalie Adam Wilcox made 34 saves, 15 in the third period.
