Fort Myers, Fla. (KNSI) - I heard it from some before I came down here, I heard it all week once I got here, the beaches are amazing. And today, on my day off from the baseball beat, I found it is certainly true.
Today I made the 20 minute or so drive out to the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva. White sand mixed with pearl colored sea-shells, blue water cascading endlessly, and plenty of Flordia sunshine.
Up and down the streets of the isles shops and restaurants exhibit their unique wares. From colorful glass jewelry to genuine sand dollars(.75 cents to five dollars all depending on the size).
You want to soak in the sun and sea breeze while grabbing a bite? There are more options than you can even count. I went to the Island Cow and chowed down on a cheese-steak with a bit of an island twist. Along with the peppers and onions, they top it with sizzling, juicy pineapple chunks. Toss on some melting blue cheese and it is quite the one of a kind experience.
All up and down the island there are varied nature preserves and natural habitats that are open for guided and some self guided tours. It really is a have for the nature lover or outdoor enthusiast. My first interview down here was with Betsy Clayton from Lee County Parks and Recreation. Her words echoed in my head as I saw first hand the stunning gulf vistas and eye popping nature she spoke of.
Hear my entire chat with Betsy Clayton about all there is to do and see around Fort Myers.
Tomorrow I get back to more baseball. I won't be on the radio, but as I watch the Twins take on the Toronto Blue Jays I will be keeping KNSIRadio.com hopping uploading some as yet unheard interviews from my time down here with the Twins at Hammond Stadium.
The trip is in the home stretch, but there is still oh so much to share, so keep it tuned to KNSI and keep checking back with KNSIRadio.com.
KNSI's coverage of Twins Spring Training, directly from Fort Myers is brought to you by Foley Lumber and Milaca Building Center, Jackson Hewitt, Bristow's and New York Gyro. Hear J.W. all throughout the day on the KNSI Morning Show with Don Lyons, The Bob Hughes Show and Ox in the Afternoon.
