ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Austin Poganski made history for Cathedral High School and has become a NHL draftee in one day. With the 110th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft the St. Louis Blues took Poganski in the 4th round.
The 6 foot 1 forward left Cathedral last season to play in the United States Hockey League, a move that helped improve his stock in the eyes of NHL Scouts. Poganski is the first Crusader to be drafted by the NHL, but not the first to play in the league. Nate Schmidt, following a decorated career at the University of Minnesota, signed a contract with Washington Capitols.
The next time Poganski plays hockey in St. Cloud, he will be as an opponent of St. Cloud State. Poganski will play for North Dakota this upcoming season.
