Sports for Thursday, July 24th

 

MLB: Twins 3, Indians 1

-       Twins take 2 out of 3 from Cleveland

-       Oswaldo Arcia went 2-4 with his 6th HR of the year

-       Anthony Swarzak picked up his 2nd win of the year filling in for Kyle Gibson

-       Twins kick off a four game series against the Chicago White Sox tonight

-       Hector Noesi (4-7) vs. Phil Hughes (10-6), first pitch at 7:10pm

 

-       Trade deadline is 7 days away, and the Detroit Tigers made a move yesterday, adding closer Joakim (Whaa-keem) Soria

 

Northwoods League: Rox were off last night

-       Rox @ Eau Claire Express, 6:35pm first pitch

 

NFL: HAPPY FOOTBALL DAY!

-       Vikings players report to camp today, and practice for the first time tomorrow afternoon. KNSI will be LIVE on scene all day.

 

-       Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater spoke with the press yesterday and addressed the notion of him not wearing gloves. He said that he will never again play without gloves, calling himself "Teddy two-gloves Bridgewater".

 

-       Former Minnesota Viking and Seattle Seahawk Sidney Rice retired yesterday at the age of 27. He earned 25.25 million over his career. 

 

-       Local note, former SCSU wide receiver Fred Williams is in Chiefs camp and he looks great so far. Some observers believe he has a real shot to make the team. Williams and the Chiefs will face the Vikings this preseason on August 28th

 

College Sports:

-       The Minnesota Gophers announced their Camp schedule yesterday for football, and it has three days that are open to fans. August 3rd, 4th and 5th practices can be watched by fans. Gophers kick off their season on August 28th.
